“I think [left-wing supporters of Julian Assange] are the stupidest people on the planet, and unpatriotic as well.” – Randi Rhodes
On August 23, 2016, The Hill published an op-ed piece by Dr. Jill Stein that concluded with the words “Julian Assange is a hero in my book.”
Really? In 2010, Assange worked with Chelsea Manning in a attempt to break into a Department of Defense computer network by cracking a password. (See Breaking Down the Hacking Case Against Julian Assange, by Andy Greenberg.) Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison for espionage, but her sentence was commuted to seven years. She was jailed again on March 8, 2019, for contempt of court, after refusing to testify before a grand jury about Assange.
According to Norton, as many as 978 million people in 20 countries lost money to cyber crime in 2017, costing them a total of $172 billion.
Here’s another big number for you: the US Department of Defense spends around $8 billion for cyber security. The Cyber Mission Force includes at least 6,300 uniformed personnel.
US politicians frequently mouth the words, “support our troops”. I have no idea whether Tofu Palin has ever uttered them. It should be clear to everyone, however, that as far as the 6,300 troops of the Cyber Mission Force are concerned, Tofu Palin is supporting the other side.
If Assange is a hero in Tofu Palin’s book, what book is she reading from? Her book might contain a warning that if Assange eventually testifies before a Congressional committee or in court, he will be asked questions about the nature of his relationship with Putin and Trump. This could easily stretch to what sort of support Tofu Palin’s 2016 presidential campaign might have received from Putin, Trump, and Assange.
